Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Somatic Counselling and Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching?
Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching focuses on education and skill-building in service to a specific learning objective or goal. It makes use of Somatic Sex Education and Sexological Bodywork approaches, is built around experiential, embodied learning, and may incorporate touch where relevant or supportive.
Somatic Counselling is a therapy approach and focuses on the process rather than orienting around outcome or goals. We practice bringing attention to the body and the present-moment and how your intention for the session or any challenges you’re bringing are showing up for you, working with them as they unfold. As in Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching there may be a focus on creating change, however in Somatic Counselling this happens through deep listening and holding whatever’s here together, supporting the nervous system and engaging in curious, open-ended exploration.
Can I do sessions online?
Yes. Online sessions are available worldwide, alongside in-person sessions in Brunswick East.
Can I see you if I’m exploring kink, ethical non-monogamy, or non-traditional relationships?
Absolutely. I create a non-judgmental and affirmative space for all relationship styles, sexualities, and identities.
Do you work with trauma?
I work with people living with trauma and my work is trauma-informed, however what I offer is not a trauma-treatment model. Somatic modalities can create greater regulation in the nervous system, expand capacity, and build resilience, however if your day-to-day is impacted by active trauma I recommend seeing a trauma-specialist alongside our work together.
Do you work with couples?
Yes. I also work with relationships of more than two (triads, quads, polycules, etc).
Do you use touch in your sessions?
Touch, including erotic or genital touch from practitioner to client, may be used in Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching sessions in service to your learning objective or goals and only through discussion and agreement about the practice that will be undertaken. All touch is client-led - unlike conventional bodywork approaches where the practitioner leads and the client remains passive, any use of touch in this work invites you to be actively engaged—learning to feel, choose, and communicate in each moment. The emphasis is not on what is done to the body, but rather on supporting and developing your skills and empowering you to reconnect with their own body’s wisdom, curiosity, and desires.
Can I switch from Somatic Counselling to Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching or vice versa?
Each of these offerings are most supportive when engaged with as a series of sessions, so I don’t recommend jumping between these offerings session-to-session. However in some cases it may serve to complete work inside of one offering and undertake a series of sessions in the other.
Please note that while erotic or genital touch (e.g. genital mapping, etc) is available inside of Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching, this is not available to those who begin a series of Coaching sessions after working with me for Somatic Counselling work. If this kind of service is desired I can provide a referral to another practitioner.
Do I need to have a sexual concern to do Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching with you?
No — Intimacy & Embodiment Coaching can support anyone wanting to learn or build skills around embodiment, human relating or eroticism. Sexual concerns are one reason among many that people may engage this service.
